越前和紙の「副産物・こうぞの芯」で作るカトラリー -芯うるし-
越前和紙の製造過程で生じる副産物である楮（こうぞ）の芯を素材に、漆で仕上げたカトラリーです。楮の芯に漆を重ねることで十分な強度を与え、日常の道具としてお使いいただけるよう仕立てました。
楮は樹皮を剥ぎ、すりつぶして和紙の原料となりますがこれまで残された芯の部分は、主に燃料として使われるにとどまっていました。 しかし､樹皮を剥いだあとの楮の芯は木肌がきめ細かく滑らかで漆を塗る素材として非常に適しています。
廃材として扱われてきた素材に新たな価値を与え、素材の美しさと実用性を兼ね備えたカトラリーへと生まれ変わらせました。
Cutlery Made from a Byproduct of Echizen Washi: Kozo Cores -SHIN URUSHI-
This cutlery is crafted from the cores of kozo (paper mulberry), a byproduct generated during the production of Echizen washi paper, and finished with layers of lacquer. By repeatedly applying lacquer to the kozo cores, sufficient strength is achieved, making the pieces suitable for everyday use as functional tools.
In the washi-making process, the bark of the kozo plant is stripped and processed into pulp for paper. Until now, the remaining core was largely used only as fuel. However, once the bark is removed, the kozo core reveals a finely textured, smooth surface that is exceptionally well suited as a base material for lacquer.
By reimagining a material once treated as waste, this cutlery gives new value to the kozo core, transforming it into functional objects that combine material beauty with practicality.
