OBITO｜帯を、日常へ。
博多織最古の織元・西村織物の商品リニューアルに際し、同社のテキスタイルの魅力を現代の暮らしへとつなぐ商品ブランディングと商品デザインを担当しました。
立ち上げたのは、伝統紋様を日常に取り入れる「千本献上」、本袋織の帯生地を活かした「OBITO」、そして金銀の箔糸を織り込む華やかな「佐賀錦」の3つのシリーズです。
本商品「OBITO」は、シルクの本袋織による半幅帯を使用したバケツ型のポシェットです。
使用する帯生地には、定期的に発表される新柄に加え、西村織物が大切に保管してきたアーカイブ生地も採用しています。そのため、一つとして同じものがない、一期一会の表情を持つバッグとなっています。ぜひ、ご自身だけのお気に入りの一柄を見つけてください。
本袋織は、二枚の生地を同時に織りながら両端を接結し、筒状に仕上げる博多織の伝統技法です。縫い目のない構造により、しなやかな風合いと高い耐久性を兼ね備えています。
また、本袋織は表裏のどちらにも美しい意匠が現れることが大きな特徴です。その魅力を最大限に活かすため、あえて裏地を設けず、両面の柄を楽しめる仕様としました。内側には取り外し可能な巾着を備え、財布やスマートフォンなどの貴重品も安心して収納できます。

OBITO – Bringing the Beauty of the Obi into Everyday Life
With the renewal of the product line for Nishimura Orimono, the oldest Hakata-ori weaving house, we were responsible for the product branding and design, creating a collection that brings the beauty of the company’s textiles into contemporary life.
The project introduced three distinct series: Senbon Kenjo, which incorporates traditional Japanese patterns into everyday living; OBITO, which transforms authentic Honbukuro-ori obi fabrics into modern products; and Saga Nishiki, featuring luxurious textiles woven with gold and silver foil threads.
OBITO is a bucket-shaped pochette crafted from a silk Hanhaba Obi woven using the traditional Honbukuro-oritechnique.
Each bag is made not only from newly introduced obi patterns but also from carefully preserved archival fabrics maintained by Nishimura Orimono over the years. As a result, every piece is truly one of a kind, offering a unique expression that can never be exactly replicated. We invite you to discover the pattern that speaks uniquely to you.
Honbukuro-ori is a traditional Hakata-ori weaving technique in which two layers of fabric are woven simultaneously while being joined along both edges to create a seamless tubular structure. This construction, free from stitched seams, gives the fabric exceptional suppleness as well as remarkable durability.
Another defining characteristic of Honbukuro-ori is that both the front and reverse sides display beautifully finished patterns. To celebrate this distinctive quality, the bag is intentionally designed without a lining, allowing the textile to be appreciated from both sides. A removable drawstring pouch inside securely stores valuables such as a wallet and smartphone while maintaining the bag’s refined appearance.
Bringing the beauty of the traditional obi into everyday life, OBITO is a bag that carries not only exquisite craftsmanship but also the story woven into every textile—reimagined for the rhythms of contemporary living.
